Popular image conversions

Choose the new format for the job

The best output depends on where the image must open, whether transparency matters and how much compression is acceptable.

HEIC→JPG

HEIC or HEIF to JPG

Turn an iPhone photo into a broadly usable JPG copy for software, forms or devices that do not accept HEIC. HEIC and HEIF are input-only in GeckoShareSafe.

WebP→JPG

WebP to JPG

Convert an image saved from the web when another program expects JPG. Any transparent area becomes white because JPG has no alpha transparency.

WebP→PNG

WebP to PNG

Create a PNG copy when a workflow requires PNG or transparency already present in the WebP must remain available.

PNG→JPG

PNG to JPG

Use adjustable JPG quality for a photographic PNG when compatibility or a smaller copy matters. Results and file size depend on the source image and chosen quality.

JPG→PNG

JPG to PNG

Change the container for a PNG-based workflow. Conversion does not recreate detail lost to earlier JPG compression and does not make the background transparent.

TIFF→JPG

TIFF, BMP or GIF conversion

Open less convenient raster files and create JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or TIFF copies. Multi-page TIFF and animated-image workflows need special care.

JPG, PNG or WebP?

Match the format to the image

A filename extension is not a quality level. Each format stores pixels differently and changing formats always creates a newly encoded file.

JPG

Photos and broad compatibility

JPG uses lossy compression and offers an adjustable quality setting. It works well for many photographs, but it cannot preserve transparency.

PNG

Transparency and precise graphics

PNG is a lossless raster format and can preserve an existing alpha channel. It is often appropriate for logos, screenshots and graphics with sharp edges.

WebP

Modern web images

WebP supports lossy and lossless compression as well as transparency. It can be a useful web-delivery format, but always compare the finished quality and size.

Three-step conversion

From source file to saved copies

The converter handles one source image at a time and lets you prepare several output formats from it.

  1. 1

    Choose one image

Open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC or HEIF from your device.

  2. 2

    Improve or resize

Keep the original dimensions or choose a longest edge, then preview optional image improvements.

  3. 3

    Select formats

Choose JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or TIFF and adjust quality or the transparency fill where relevant.

  4. 4

    Save each result

Review and save the current format. The next unsaved result appears only after a successful save.

Transparent PNG

Conversion and background removal solve different problems

Saving a JPG as PNG changes its file format, but the visible background remains part of the pixels. To create a transparent PNG, remove the background first and then save the edited result in a transparency-capable format.

Local image conversion

Your image is converted on your device

The browser reads and re-encodes the selected file locally. GeckoShareSafe does not upload the image to an editing server or store a cloud copy. Saved results do not carry over the original file’s private metadata, and the original remains unchanged.

Accurate format expectations

What conversion can and cannot do

HEIC and HEIF are input-only. They can be opened and converted, but the browser tool does not create new HEIC or HEIF files.

RAW camera files are not supported. CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG and other professional RAW formats need a dedicated RAW processor.

Raster-to-vector tracing is not included. GeckoShareSafe does not turn JPG or PNG pixels into editable SVG, EPS or PDF vector paths.

Batch conversion is not available here. Convert processes one source image at a time. Batch can be explored separately as a browser preview, but browser Batch processing and saving are not enabled.

Animation and multiple pages are not preserved. Use a specialized workflow when every GIF/WebP animation frame or every TIFF page must remain intact.

A new format does not add missing quality. JPG-to-PNG conversion cannot restore compression detail, and a larger file is not automatically a better-looking image.

Quality and file size

Check the finished file instead of relying on the extension

JPG and WebP quality settings balance visible detail against file size. The smallest format depends on the image, dimensions and encoding choice; conversion does not guarantee a particular percentage reduction.

01

Preview important detail

Inspect faces, text, gradients and sharp edges before saving, especially after choosing stronger lossy compression.

02

Use suitable dimensions

Resizing can reduce file size substantially. Keep enough pixels for the destination instead of enlarging a small source.

03

Compare actual bytes

The converter displays the original and finished file sizes. If a WebP or JPG copy becomes larger, adjust the quality or dimensions.

Questions and answers

Online image conversion FAQ

How do I convert HEIC to JPG for free?

Open Convert, choose one HEIC or HEIF photo and continue to the output step. Select JPG, adjust quality if needed, create the result and save the new copy. Conversion runs locally and requires no account.

How do I change an iPhone photo from HEIC to JPG?

You can convert the existing photo here, or change future capture behavior on the iPhone. Apple’s Camera settings offer a Most Compatible option for capturing new photos as JPEG, while High Efficiency uses HEIF. Changing that setting does not convert photos already taken.

Can I convert WebP to JPG or PNG?

Yes. Open the WebP file and select JPG, PNG or another supported output. Choose PNG when existing transparency must remain; JPG fills transparent areas with white.

Can I convert PNG to JPG without losing quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so a mathematically lossless PNG-to-JPG conversion is not possible. A high JPG quality setting may look very close to the source, but inspect the result. Transparent areas are filled with white.

Will PNG to JPG always make the file smaller?

No. Photographic PNG files often become smaller as JPG, but the result depends on pixel dimensions, image content and quality. Compare the displayed file sizes before saving.

Does converting JPG to PNG make the background transparent?

No. Existing white or colored background pixels remain. Use Remove Background & Objects first, review the cutout, then save a PNG result.

Can I batch convert HEIC, PNG or WebP files?

Not in the browser Convert tool. It handles one source image at a time, although you can produce several output formats from that image. Browser Batch is currently a preview and cannot process or save a folder.

Can I convert RAW photos or trace a PNG into SVG?

No. Camera RAW development and raster-to-vector tracing are different processes and are not included in this converter.

Which formats can GeckoShareSafe open and save?

Convert can open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and HEIC/HEIF. It saves JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or TIFF. HEIC/HEIF is input-only.

Are my images uploaded during conversion?

No. Your selected image is processed locally on your device. GeckoShareSafe does not provide image uploads or cloud photo storage.
